Good question...

...from Glenn Greenwald...
How could any rational person expect their government to spend a full decade (and counting) invading, droning, cluster-bombing, occupying, detaining without charges, and indiscriminately shooting huge numbers of innocent children, women and men in multiple countries and not have its victims and their compatriots be increasingly eager to return the violence?

I've got nothing, really…

…to add to the discussion of Dr. George Tiller's murder. Like everyone of sanity and good will, I deplore the act and the ideas that led to it, but there's scant evidence that the purveyors of those ideas feel any regret or responsibility, and some evidence of a perverse sense of pride. That's terrible, but if anything positive comes from this tragedy, it will be a firmer resolve by those who believe in a nation of laws to refuse to be terrorized.

Since you asked...

Tristram Korten and Kirk Nielsen in Salon
Anti-Castro Cuban exiles who have been linked to bombings and assassinations are living free in Miami. Does the U.S. government have a double standard when it comes to terror?
Since you asked, yes.

It's terrible, sure…

…but that doesn't make it terrorism.

Benazir Bhutto seemed to be a confounding blend of courage, controversy and corruption, but I think it's more accurate to describe her death as a plain, if plainly tragic, political assassination rather than an act of terrorism. If every act of political violence is labeled terror, then soon the horror behind the label will become diluted, if not invisible.

Trying to fit this into some kind of GWOT framework is dishonest and an insult to the memory of Ms. Bhutto and the very real risks she willingly faced for her country.

"'I just brought terror to someone...

...under the American flag'."

Sgt. Timothy Westphal, 18th Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division
The sons of bitches have turned the Big Red One into a terror organization, and the troops know it.

The troops know a lot.

I know I hate what they're doing to my Army.
