The National Portrait Gallery in London is planning to stage its first exhibition devoted entirely to pop art.
The display will feature works by Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Ray Johnson, Sir Peter Blake and David Hockney.
Highlights will include a Warhol self-portrait and Lichtenstein's iconic In the Car.
One room of the exhibition, which will run from 11 October to 20 January, will be devoted to Marilyn Monroe.
The show, Pop Art Portraits, has been conceived as a "visual dialogue" between US and British Pop Art.
Sandy Nairne, director of the National Portrait Gallery, said: "Pop Art Portraits creates an exciting opportunity to see an important art movement in a new light - the portrait is recreated through the work of these artists."
