0 New Video – Edguy – Robin Hood

EDGUY have released their video for ‘Robin Hood’, the opening track from the band’s forthcoming new album, Age Of The Joker (due out August 26th!)
Video director Oliver Sommer (AVANTASIA, HELLOWEEN) and the band decided to satirize the Errol Flynn version, The Adventures Of Robin Hood. The miniature epic was shot in the forest with a large number of additional actors, starring German TV-comedian Bernhard Hoecker in two different leading roles.

0 EDGUY Announce New Album, “Age Of The Joker”

The time has come: In September EDGUY, one of Germany‘s biggest internationally acclaimed guitar driven bands in recent music history will set out on the road again in support of their forthcoming album “Age Of The Joker“ (worldwide release in August 2011). What is going to be EDGUY‘s 9th studio effort will also mark the band‘s first ‘real‘ album in almost three years; three years in which the band has toured Europe, Asia, Australia, North-, Central- and South America. And it‘s been the activities in those years that had a determining influence on forthcoming tour plans:
After last year‘s chart-breaking collaboration between EDGUY vocalist Tobias Sammet and Klaus Meine of the SCORPIONS in “AVANTASIA“ and EDGUY‘s successful arena tour as the SCORPIONS´ Special Guest, now it‘s time for another ‘family internal‘ constellation to kick ass: “KOTTAK“ (the band fronted by legendary SCORPIONS drummer James Kottak) will be supporting EDGUY during the European leg of the tour.

2 EDGUY ARE IN THE STUDIO TO RECORD A NEW ALBUM!

Edguy post the following update tonight:
After a successful world tour with more than 100 concerts all over the globe in support of their latest release “Tinnitus Sanctus” in 2008, Edguy have entered the studio to record a new album. Still under the influence of their arena tour as special guests of “the Scorpions” and the latest “Avantasia” world tour (featuring Tobias Sammet and Felix Bohnke), Edguy feel it’s about time to squeeze their energy on tape in a recording studio again. This time the band has chosen the famous Peppermint-Park in Hannover (Scorpions, Phil Collins), according to the band ” a recording temple with a tremendously great sounding room”. Tobias comments: “We have chosen the Peppermint Park to record the basics there. I had done a few little bits and pieces for Avantasia there, but it’s so great to record drums and stuff like Hammond B3 with a big bad fat mean Leslie there. The room is big and the sound is mean! We were always striving for a powerful but natural sound. I guess we had a good sound recently, but I think there is always room to improve. The more I listen to what’s going on in the Heavy Metal world these days, the more I long for drums that sound like drums. I want them to sound powerful without sounding like Atari. Sascha and I came to the conclusion that we have to start from scratch and do things the way they have to be done, not the fashionable way. I don’t want a distorted master-copy, just so it is loud enough on an iPhone or on PC-speakers. If you talk to your most fancy producer he will say something like: “Well, it’s the sign of the times, you have to be able to compete in the loudness war…” What the fuck?! If I want it to be loud I turn up the stereo. I want dynamics, room, a real big sound, not that distorted trendy compression. Why don’t we all move back a little and record great sounding music, not loud sounding music? Do a Google search for “loudness war” and you’ll see what I mean. Whatever, the new songs sound great, we have thirteen of them, and we’ll pick maybe ten and put them on the album. We have anthemic melodies, although it’s not kitsch. When you record anthemic music, you tend to be dangerously close to kitsch, it’s a fine line and I think we balance on that fine line pretty well. To cut a long story a little insignificantly shorter: I just think it is great, and that’s what counts. Real music, you know? We’ll keep you informed, if you want it or not! ;-) – Tobi

3 Jorn Lande to Tour With Avantasia

EDGUY singer Tobias Sammet has issued the following update on his AVANTASIA solo project:
“I’d like to take the opportunity to thank you for your great support. ‘The Scarecrow’ is an album that means a lot to me and it was quite a commercial risk to just follow my heart instead of doing exactly what people expected. But if I take a look at the chart positions and sales — it went into the album charts in 16 countries, hitting the Top10 in four countries — it seems like you appreciate my honesty! Thank you!
Now preparing for the festival summer with AVANTASIA seems so surreal. AVANTASIA has never been on stage before and all of the sudden we are headlining the biggest festivals in the world, just been confirmed for the Sziget festival in Hungary on the 13th of August, playing amongst legendary bands such as R.E.M., DIE ÄRZTE, IRON MAIDEN and the SEX PISTOLS. Amazing!
“The AVANTASIA line up will be Jorn Lande (ex-MASTERPLAN), André Matos (ex-ANGRA), Amanda Somerville, Olli Hartmann, Bob Catley (MAGNUM — not all shows), Sascha Paeth, Miro, Robert Hunecke, Claudy Yang and Frank Lindenthal who is gonna replace Eric Singer who’ll be playing with KISS. Despite all rumors Michael Kiske will not be there, as he didn’t wanna do it and I respect that! We’ll put on a huge epic show anyway. Nobody has done something like that before and I swear, nobody will ever forget the event, neither you nor us!!!”

2 EDGUY – Rocket Ride (Release Year – 2006)
In 2007, If you were to ask the average U.S. Rock fan about EDGUY, you would get a response like, Ed who? Who is that?
Simply said, this is the state of hard rock music in the United States. Only the die hard rock fans know who this band is. It is a real shame considering the strength of some of their previous releases (Hellfire Club, and Mandrake).
For those of you that don’t know EDGUY, this is a German Power Metal band that began in 1992. Their style has matured over the years into a NWOBHM type of sound that 80’s rock fans are sure to love.
Lead singer Tobias Sammet has a powerful set of pipes, and has a vocal style similar to Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden. The band features a dual axe attack of Jens Ludwig on lead guitar, and Dirk Sauer on Rhythm Guitar. Tobias Exxel handles the Bass guitar, and Felix Bohnke is the skin basher.
Rocket Ride is the 8th studio disc for EDGUY, and is a damn good one at that.
This disc starts off with an 8 minute melodic monster Sacrifice. This song is full of great vocals, heavy guitars and harmonic keyboards.
The title track Rocket Ride, is a tremendous rocker that falls somewhere between Judas Priest and Accept in style. There is plenty of guitar noodling and pounding drums in this song. Great stuff!
Wasted Time is a very cool Iron Maiden style tune, with plenty of back up vocals for good measure. Tobias Sammet sounds a lot like Bruce Dickenson on this track.
Matrix should have been a hit for EDGUY. Check out the video below for this track.
Matrix
Return to the Tribe feels a little too much like filler to me. It is a nice jam session, but not the best of songs.
The Asylum on the other hand is a superb cut off of Rocket Ride. The music and vocals are first-rate on this song.
Save Me is a hellaciously good ballad. This disc needed a break from the mid to high tempo rockers and Save Me comes at the perfect time to break it up a little bit. This is another song that screams hit.
Catch of the Century is a fun headbanger. It kind of reminds me of a heavy Pink Cream 69 song. It is very cool and the music is top notch!
Out of Vogue is an ok high speed rocker. I like the music on the track but the lyrics need a little bit of work.
Superheroes should have been another hit for EDGUY, but once again got shafted by U.S. Radio. Check out the video below for this song!
Superheroes
Trinidad has to be the closest thing to Pop Metal that EDGUY has ever tried. It is a very upbeat and happy sounding song. This is one that grows on you after a while.
You just have to love the title, Fucking With Fire (Hair Force One). This is another song that just rocks. This track is more hard rock than metal, but it very good.
The bonus track, Land Of The Miracle is nothing to get excited about. (How many bonus tracks are?)
Rocket Ride is another great hard rock/metal offering from 2006 that will hopefully find itself in a lot more people’s hands before it disappears into obscurity. If you are a fan of NWOBHM type of music, you need to check out EDGUY’s Rocket Ride. This disc will likely appeal to fans of bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Accept.
Don’t miss this!
