Felt: Simple Bowl

Sometimes you find there are so many things on your desk and often you are not too sure where and when to keep them cause from time to time you need it.

B-line has shared with us a tutorial on the making of felt bowl and I think it will be pretty good organiser for your desk or even as toy basket~

What you need are:
Good color combination of felt cloths
Ruler
Scissors
Maker/pen
Sewing machine
Pins

Personally from my experience, if you want to make a small version for tiny things like earrings, you can always sew it rather than machine it~ anyway, happy trying~

Quiet Book Series - Development Ideas

Lately I was busy collecting ideas for quiet book and it will be a series of quiet book instructions. Each quiet book contains 4 - 6 words, one word per page with illustration/colors/shapes, depend on the instructional design for toddler's learning needs.

Tentatively here are some ideas I have listed, if you have other thoughts that you think is good for your kids, please let me know. I will convert your ideas to instruction so you can make it yourself!

Quiet book ideas (can choose 4 or 6 out of the given words):

(a) shapes (circle, oval, rectangle, square, triangle, love, star)

(b) colors (red, blue, yellow, green, orange, brown, purple, black, white)

(c) numbers (1 -5 or 1 - 10)

(d) fruits (apple, orange, grapes, banana, pineapple, strawberry, mango, durian, rambutan, manggosteen, papaya, starfruit, kiwi, watermelon, coconut)

(e) toddler food (biscuits, milk, porridge, bread, vegetable, fish, meat, egg, cheese)

(f) cloths (shirt, pants, skirts, dress, socks, shoe)

(g) daily routine (4p)(tooth brush, breakfast, bath, ball, pajamas, book, food)

(h) family (this could be difficult)

(i) toys (ball, cube, tent, bear, robot, doll, puzzle, top, kite)

Part of the ideas above will be converted into an interactive learning objects while some of it just a 2D design.

Mushroom Business Card Holder

For a totally unique and fun business card holder, make our Mushroom! The mushroom cap is on the top flap and the stem remains on the lower portion. The finished size is approximately 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" and will hold standard sized business cards. Make one for yourself and several for gift giving.

French Fries

I know some crafts lover would like to learn sewing felt stuff toy and do not know where to start. This happen to my new friend and I let her choose what she wish to do and let me guide her with templates and photo instructions. Since I have prepared the tutorial for her, now I would like to share with those who wants to learn as well.

First of all, you need to get some materials before my tutorial. The materials you need are:

1. yellow color felt (9cm X 4cm for a fries)
   
2. yellow color thread
3. toy stuffing
   
4. scissors
5. ruler
6. needle

So are you ready with the materials? Let's start the tutorial ^^

Steps:

1.Cut out your felt according to the measurement below:

2. Fold the felt into half of the size, see the picture below:

3. Sew the edge of the felt

4. After sewing, fold the felt to another angle and sew the other 2 edges.

5. So you should aspect to get this fries in rectangular shape.

6. Sew one of the top cover and then stuff the stuffy. Remember, do not stuff too much as you don't want it to be too puffy.

7. Finally sew the other end of the fries and now you can start making second, third and so on..

Felt Sugar Cookies

These dainty little treats are a hit in the kitchen, a play kitchen that is. My kids puts these on a small tray I bought at the dollar store and bring them to us to taste. Follow my how-to for these fun Felt Sugar Cookies.

First, you will need felt, embroidery thread, needle, and batting. Using a glass or cup, trace a circle onto your felt. Make it at least 2-3 inches across, you can always trim later. Double up the felt and cut out 2 circles at once.

Get out the colors of embroidery thread for the colors of sprinkles you want your cookie to have. Thread your needle and make a knot at one end. Using only the top circle, go up and down throughout the felt to make the look of small little sprinkles. Simply tie a second knot on the back of the felt when you are done.

Cut or pull out some batting to make the middle of your cookie. Not too much. You don’t want your cookies to look too puffy. Place the batting between the felt circles. You want at least 2-3 centimeters in from the cookie without batting.

Now you can sew around the cookie. You can use a sewing machine on a zigzag setting as I have done, or you can stitch a blanket stitch around the cookie for an even more homemade cookie look.

Then I did this one as an Oreo cookie and only stitched the two felt pieces together through the batting. I didn’t sew the edges.
